In the Community

At Enliven we recognise that many people who are living in their own homes could also benefit from some additional social interaction, care and support.

Volunteers

We are always interested to hear from people who would like to offer to help us with the SupportLink service in the community or in our care homes.

Our volunteers range in age and come from all walks of life. They are dedicated individuals who are there to offer support and recognise that by giving a little of their time they can make a difference.

If you are able and willing to be involved in Invercargill, Gore or Whakatipu, please contact the SupportLink Coordinator for your area to find out more about how you could help.

As part of the volunteer process, we will look to get to know you better and understand the way you feel you could best help. We then work to match you up with a suitable role either in our community-based activities or in one of our care homes. Our volunteers are vetted and given initial training and orientation, and then you will be introduced to the people who will be supporting you in your role.

SupportLink team

SupportLink is our link to the wider community, it varies from area to area in response to specific needs.

SupportLink aims to find ways to help older people living in their own home maximise their independence by providing opportunities for social connection and companionship. Delivered by a small group of staff and dedicated volunteers who recognise that even a small amount of support can often make a huge difference in an older person's life.

Some of the services that may be available in your area include:

  • Opportunities for regular friendship or companionship
  • Access to social activities
  • Access to coffee clubs with people of a similar age
  • Supporting older people while spouses or carers take time out

The service is run in three locations across Southland - Invercargill, Gore and Whakatipu.

One of our most popular activities is our monthly coffee groups. Coffee groups are a great chance to meet like-minded people, and provide an opportunity to enjoy some entertainment, hear an interesting speaker, learn more about what is happening in the community, or just have an excuse to go out for a few hours.

To find out more or to get involved in the programme, please contact the SupportLink Coordinator for your area.
